Obituary

William J. Vogel Sr. 87, of Gilroy was surrounded by family when he peacefully passed away on February 21, 2014 after suffering a stroke.

Born July 25, 1926 in El Centro, California, Bill moved to Gilroy with his family during his teen years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1946. Upon his separation from the service he purchased land in Gilroy and built the family homestead. He spent his adult life working in carpentry and construction. He loved bowling, duck hunting, fishing, camping, watching sports, playing cards, gardening, going to the races in Watsonville, driving through the countryside, and sitting in the sunshine. He will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, and especially for his carpentry skills, and his generosity in helping others.

He was preceded in death by his parents William F. and Ida A. Vogel, and brother Werner Vogel.

He is survived by Louise P. Vogel, his wife of 56 years, his children, William J. (Sandra) Vogel Jr.; Natalie (James) Black; Audrey (Stephen) Blanding; Grandsons Garrett and Scott Vogel; Lucas (Alicia), Jacob, Christian and Weston (Ashley) Black; and great-granddaughters Madison and Blakely Black.

Bill also leaves behind siblings Joseph (Mona) Vogel; Ida Knowles; Julia (Peter) Gimenez; Albert (Rosie) Vogel; Edward (Joann) Vogel; Elizabeth (Robert) Cheadle..

Bill will be missed by his numerous nieces and nephews to whom he was a loving uncle. His family would like to thank the devoted caregivers and friend Emely Knapp for her help and compassion during this difficult time.
