William Douglas "Doug" Simmons, passed away unexpectedly, on September 13, 2022, at the age of 65.  Doug was born to William Lawrence and Connie Simmons at Wheeler Hospital in Gilroy, California on January 18, 1957.  He was the eldest of three siblings.  He graduated from Gilroy High School, where he was the Senior Class President and also a star athlete.  He ran track-and-field, and also played basketball, baseball and football.  He later started his own business, Simmons Construction, and became a general contractor.  His work reflected his craftsmanship and perfectionism.

He is survived by his daughter Kylie Simmons, son Kurt Simmons, daughter-in-law Leslie Simmons, four grandchildren – Harlan Simmons, Brinley Simmons, Brady Simmons and Patricia Willow Woodward, sister Julie Webb, brother-in-law Dave Webb, sister Suzie Davidson, nephew Julian Davidson, mother-in-law Barbara Drewitz, stepmother Ilsa "Oma" Simmons, and step-siblings Wayne and Jenny Bechtle, Mike Bechtle, Eveyln Bechtle, stepfather Bob Spung, step-sisters Debra Spung and Sandy Smith, and stepsons Nick Fortino, Daniel Fortino and Adam Fortino.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Geralyn Simmons and his parents, Larry Simmons and Connie Spung.

Doug was a proud father and grandfather.  He was good and kind, with a generous spirit.   He will be dearly missed.

A Graveside Service will be held at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 11:00 am

There will be a barbeque and celebration of life following the graveside service at 7751 Princevalle St., Gilroy, CA 95020.
