Martinez, Walter H. "Poppa", 70 years old, went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 21, 2010, in Sedona, Arizona. He was born in Los Angeles to Rosa and Martin Martinez. He was raised in Gilroy and retired and moved to Sedona, Arizona. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Irene Martinez. Loving father of Gina Gomez, Liza (Sylverster) Gomez, and the late Wally, Jr. and Larry Martinez. Father-in-law of Mandy who was like a daughter to him. Survived by 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and one on the way. He was preceded by 3 grandchildren, Wally, III, Larry, Jr. and Derio, Jr. Dear brother of Cruz, David, Clarence, Jessie, Henry, Mike, Caroline and Lucy and the late Martin, Jr., Virginia, Jennie and Sophia. Survived my many nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed gardening and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He was a loving, simple man who truly had a servant's heart and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. John 14: 3.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 27th, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at Habing Family Funeral Home, 129 Fourth St., Gilroy, followed by burial at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
