Tony is survived by his wife Joanne Fierro; children Cindy (Dan) Phillips of Monte Sereno, Cathy (Doug) Shepard of Roseville and Anthony Fierro (Schelly Grimm) of Sacramento; grandchildren Christopher (Angela) Shepard, Nicholas (Megan) Shepard, Carmen Marie Tolomeo and Dominic Shepard; his mother Caroline Fierro; his constant companion Fella. Preceded in death by his father Joseph Fierro, sister Mary Ellen Trujillo and grandson Michael Joseph Fierro Tolomeo.
Tony was born in Gonzalez CA and moved to San Jose as a young child to be closer to grandparents and large extended family. He attended Gardner Elementary, Peter Burnett Jr. High and San Jose Tech. At the age of 13 he started working at Del Monte Cannery to help contribute to his family's income. He also would accompany his father hauling produce up and down the west coast. This developed into his love of driving big rigs and a 40 year career as a Teamster.
The friendships he made during his school years and his years as a Teamster lasted throughout his life.
Tony met his wife, Joanne, in Santa Cruz in 1976. They were married and moved to San Jose in 1977. They lived a full life together for 36 years and shared a passion for the Oakland A's where they were long time season ticket holders.
Tony enjoyed the past 19 years in retirement with Joanne in Gilroy. His favorite past times were taking drives to the coast and Tahoe. He loved to garden and took pride in his beautiful yard. He would often be seen riding his bike on the levee with Joanne walking the dog.
Tony's family was very important to him. He always remained close with his mother, brother Joe (Terry) Fierro, and sisters Priscilla Fierro and Carol Louise (Ray) Fujii and many nieces and nephews, visiting and calling often.
He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, hearing about their lives, telling stories about his childhood, all the while barbequing the best chicken and tri tip in town.
He was always generous with his time, support and love and will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
Memorial Mass will be held 12 noon Friday, November 9th at St. Mary Catholic Church, Gilroy.
