Susan "Susie" Gayle Sterchi died at home in Gilroy surrounded by her family on December 12, 2019.

She was the daughter of Walter and Lois Carroll Sterchi. Susie taught school in the Gilroy public schools for over 30 years at Glenview, Rod Kelley and Las Animas elementary schools.

Susie was born on September 9, 1943 in San Jose. She attended Franklin Elementary School, went to Andrew P. Hill High School her freshman year and then graduated from Yuba City High School in 1961 after her family moved there. She was a student at the University of California, Davis and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley. She completed her teacher's training at San Francisco State University. She taught in Gilroy for her entire teaching career and was active in the teacher's union. She retired in 2006.

Susie was a generous person, supporting many charitable organizations. She enjoyed world travelling, her book and bridge clubs, attending plays in San Francisco and spending time with friends and family. She was dearly loved by a large extended family who loved to travel, eat, drink and be merry together. She will be especially missed this year at Christmas, her favorite holiday.

Susie is survived by her brothers Wayne and Steve Sterchi and Steve's wife Kim. She will also be missed by her nieces and nephews, by her many cousins who enjoy their annual reunion and by many other extended family members and friends.

A memorial will be held in the social hall of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church on Tuesday, December 17 ^th at 11:00am. A celebratory lunch will follow.
