Obituary

On Monday, September 21, 2015, heaven welcomed Steven Allen Rees. Steve was born on Labor Day, September 5, 1960 in Newport Beach, CA. He was the second son to bless the home of Douglass and Janice Rees as he joined his older brother, Doug, Jr. The two boys brought great joy to their parents. Over the next several years the family continued to grow with the addition of sisters Kathleen and Susan. The Rees children were brought up in a God-honoring home, learning to love and serve others and to use their talents for God's glory. Steve memorized scriptures as a young boy that continued to stay with him and mold his character. He was active in Royal Ranger outings with his dad and brother, and as a teenager served the bus ministry of then First Assembly of God, bringing children to the house of the Lord for Sunday School. He always had a tender heart to others and to reaching out with God's love.

Brought up in a musical family, Steve learned to play trumpet and to use his singing voice in worship. As a student at Live Oak High School, he was in the marching band, The Emerald Regime ... They won a national competition in 1976! He also was in an instrumental ensemble with his brother and one of his best friends...it must have been a good year, because they also won a national competition! Music would continue to be an important part of Steve's life, singing in the group, Ambassadors, as a student at Bethany College. Throughout his adult life, Steve was active in his church in worship ministry, with Royal Rangers, and serving on the Church Board. Most of his working career was spent as an employee of IBM, and Geodis.

Steve was an absolutely wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother. Family was his priority, second only to his relationship with his Savior. He took great pride in the accomplishments of his four children, and loved to share them with others, always with that big smile of his! It was not at all unusual to catch him thinking of others - his siblings, nieces and nephews as well as his friends - and finding ways to show they were important to him. A big kid at heart, he took special joy in being a grandfather.

Steve is survived by his wife, Denise, his children, Tammy and Ryan Gallant, Kathleen Rees, Curtis and Grace Rees, and David Rees, his grandchildren, Charlotte and Luke Gallant, his parents, Douglass and Janice Rees, his mother-and father-inlaw, David and Joanne Jones, his sisters, Denise Rees-Pushaw, Kathleen and Jeff Campbell, Susan and Darren McDonald and numerous nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his brother, Douglass Rees, Jr., and his grandparents, Irvin and Evelyn Kemble and David and Joy Rees.

Memorial services were held. In Steve's honor, memorial contributions may be made to the Crossroads Worship Ministry, 145 Wright Ave, Morgan Hill, CA 95037.
