Steven G. Mayne, Sr.

Steve passed away peacefully at his home here in Morgan Hill, CA with family by his side.

Steve was born in El Centro, CA and was raised in Campbell, CA. He was the son of Richard A. Mayne, Velma Mendenhall (Maring). Steve was the oldest of 4 boys.

Steve graduated from Campbell High School in June 1966 and was a proud member of the ROTC. He immediately enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corp., during the Vietnam War. Steve did his Boot Camp at Camp Pendelton and was later transferred to Argania, Newfoundland for specialized training. Steve got injured jumping out of a helicopter and received a medical discharged in 1968. Shortly after he married Tara Starrett. Tara and Steve moved to Vegas but soon divorced.

Steve would later meet and marry the love of his life, Roxanne Lee Crowe. Roxanne was born April 30th, 1951 in Lewiston, Maine and she passed, November 27th, 2022.

Steve and Roxanne were married on November 13th, 1970 at the Elks Lodge in Las Vegas. Steve and Roxie were married for 52 amazing years.

Steve and Roxie moved from Las Vegas to the San Jose area in 1971. Steve worked in various positions over the next many years. During these and the many years following, Steve and Roxanne were Foster Parents to over 150 foster children. They tutored, nurtured and loved each of these children. Many of them, who are now adults, have kept in contact over the years and that even continues today.

In 1979 Steve started in the Termite business. By November 1985, along with Roxie their daughter Jeannette, son’s Billy and Steven, he opened up S.G. Mayne Termite, which would later expand to S.G. Mayne Termite & Construction Company. Steve and Roxanne retired from the Termite and Construction business in 2010.

They moved to Morgan Hill in 1988 to accommodate the growing business and family needs. The Morgan Hill home would remain their forever home. They loved to entertain and over the years would host many parties with family and friends.

After retiring they both chose to drive school buses for children which had special needs and disability challenges for the School District. They loved the kids and parents and, like always, became close friends with many. Never to be bored, Steve opened up his own Tax Accounting business, S.G. Mayne Tax and Accounting. Steve continued this business until 2025. Steve finished off his career working for the Gilroy Elks Lodge in July 2026.

A huge part of Steve and Roxie’s life and fulfillment was when they found and joined the Gilroy Elks Lodge #1567 in Gilroy. They gave the 35+ years to the Elk’s mission, programs and services. Steve was named Exalted Ruler and Roxanne would become a Lady Elk. They could not have been more honored. They were a big part of many functions through the Elks lodge locally, statewide and even on a national basis. Steve would remain a key Lodge, Regional and Statewide member, historian, auditor and Dignitary for the Elks until his day of passing.

As you can tell Roxanne was the foundation in Steven’s life, aspirations and service. We all believe, in the end, he just truly missed his love of his life, Roxanne Mayne.

Steve is survived by his brother Leslie Scott Mayne (wife Cheryl), daughter Jeannette Crawley (husband Nicholas Crawley), their sons, Joshua and Tyler Crawley. Son, William (Billy) Mayne, his children Trevor and Madison Mayne. Son, Steven Mayne Jr., his son Dean Mayne, Sister-in-law, Valerie Mayne, Nephew Kelley Mayne (wife Tiffany).

Steve is proceeded in death by his wife Roxanne L. Mayne, parents Richard A. Mayne and Velma, Stepfather William Maring. Roxanne’s parents, Joan and William Crowe. His brothers Michael Mayne, Clifford Mayne and Cliff’s son Michael Mayne.
