Simona Cervantes Barbosa (aged 87) passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Sunday March 5, 2017. She married her husband Cleofas Barbosa when they were both 17 years old. They came to Sacramento, California in the mid 1950's from Jamay, Jalisco MX with their 3 children and later moved to Gilroy and added 3 more to the family. Simona was a very strong and hard working woman, sometimes working 2 and 3 jobs at a time. She retired in 1972 to devote her time to caring for her young children. She was preceded in death by her husband Cleofas, her son José Luis Barbosa, her grandson Andrew and numerous siblings in Mexico. She is survived by her brother Gerardo, sister Maria (both residing in Mexico), daughter Rosemarie Contreras (Anito) of Coarsegold, her Son Henry C. Barbosa (Christina) of Chowchilla, her daughter Yolanda Barbosa Garza (Roel/"Roy") of Waterville, Maine, her son's and caretakers David Barbosa & Robert Barbosa (Monica) of Gilroy, her grandchildren Alvina Keyser (Brian), Anito Contreras III, (Merari), Cindy Martin (Rudy), Michael Barbosa (Jennifer), Sandra Barboza Loughrin (Brandon), Robert Barbosa Jr, Jesse Barbosa, great grandchildren Anisa Keyser, Brendan Keyser, Anito Sebastian Contreras, Timothy Contreras, Noah Contreras, Alessandra Contreras, Ryan Martin, Grace Martin, Great-great grandchildren Amarissa Keyser & Jordan Weitekamp.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 9, 2017, at Habing Family Funeral Home from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 6:30 pm.  Funeral Mass will be said on Friday, March 10, 2017, at St. Mary Parish, 11 First Street, Gilroy, CA at 12 Noon followed by burial at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Gilroy.
