Obituary

Shirley June Vaden, age 89, of Morgan Hill, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2020. Shirley was born in Antioch, CA, on March 8, 1931. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Jimmie Vaden, who passed in September 2017, infant son, Daniel; parents, Dan and Eva Hochstetler; siblings Leon Hochstetler and Ellen Garboske.

She is survived by her children Tom Vaden (Sherrie) of Escalon, Janis Filice (Greg) and Jeff Vaden of Gilroy, and Jon Vaden (Donna) of Tallahassee. She was a Grandmother to Sarah Field (Glenn), Jessica Autrand (Alan), Melynda Moran (Ryan), Caitlyn Vaden {Fiance, Christopher), Bryan Filice (Annie), Carissa Carsey (Caleb), Aaron, Adam, and Analise Vaden, Anthony Hay, Delana Hay, and Jennifer Waugh (John), and 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her constant and watchful companion, Rex.

Shirley grew up mostly in the San Luis Obispo area, met her husband Jim at a dance in Atascadero in 1947, and they married in 1948. In 1959, they moved their family to Gilroy. Over the years, Shirley worked at Eustice Insurance Co, Jack Kazanjian CPA, and in the Gavilan College Business Office. Eventually, she proudly opened a business that later became Shirley's Bookkeeping & Tax Service. She retired in 1998 to explore and spend more time with her family.

Shirley and Jim enjoyed camping with family and traveling whenever they could. They traveled via RV's throughout the United States and with the Garlic Roamers RV group on countless weekend trips. Additionally, she took several cruises and other trips with friends. She enjoyed playing Bunce, reading, and cheering on the Giants. Shirley was active for many years in the Gilroy Methodist Church Choir and women's groups. She was also a member of Business and Professional Women and Women in Touch.

Mostly, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She cared deeply for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and never missed an opportunity to tell them just how much she loved them.

Donations can be made in her memory to American Cancer Society or St Joseph's Family Center.

Private burial services will be held at San Joaquin National Cemetery.
