Sarah R. Sanchez was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1925. She had 5 siblings and she was born to the parents of Joaquin Rodriquez and Tomasa Castro Rodriguez. In 1944 she married Henry M. Sanchez where they started their beginnings in Texas and eventually resided in Santa Clara, California preceding his passing in 1987. Her final residence was in Gilroy, California where she lived and was surrounded by family members.

Grandma Sarah as she will always be remembered as, was a true pioneer in the art of love. That love that she shared was one that she did with the upmost diligence and care to her six children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchild and many other members of the family. She filled her days with the tasks that brought true meaning to her life. When she cooked, it wasn't just delicious food that she brought to the table, her cooking fed our souls. When she held her grandbabies it wasn't just providing comfort for that moment, it was creating a legacy of a safe haven confined within her arms.

Grandma Sarah loved bingo and could watch her own 10 cards as well as the cards of the person with her and she loved her trips to the Reservations to try her hand with lady luck and their slot machines. Needless to say she had the gift of gamble. She loved to garden every morning as the sun rose and the dew saturated her yard. She grew beautiful rose bushes, vegetables and took special pride in her cactus plants as those provided fresh nopales for her breakfast feasts. During the spring she became a fan of America's favorite past time and always had her Oakland A's rally hat on. Win or lose she was always their number one fan.

If Grandma Sarah were here today with us she would say to each and everyone attending today her favorite quote, "Thanks a million."
