Santiago "Jack" Hernandez peacefully passed away at Kaiser Santa Teresa Hospital in San Jose on Friday, January 8th, 2016 with his family by his side. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Jack was the son of Santiago Hernandez and Grace Rios, and is survived by his wife, Rosario, and his 17 children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren including his two daughters Cathy Perez and Jackie Figueroa and his two sons Mike Hernandez and Ernie Hernandez.
An avid fan of the New York Yankees baseball team who he was fortunate enough to experience his favorite team winning 23 of their 27 World Series Championships, Jack could be seen on any given day and will always be remembered for wearing at least one piece of Yankees clothing.
He was a Korean War veteran while living on the East Coast, and he had spent the last 50 years of his life establishing himself in the Bay Area with the majority of those 50 years living and working in San Jose and Gilroy. He worked for and retired from PG&E after 30 years of service.
Jack was never financially rich and was ultimately never able to win anything substantial from the "lotto" picks he would purchase on a daily basis, but he did end up being enormously rich in love. Whether it was spending time with his family and friends on the East Coast, or spending time with his family and friends in San Jose and the rest of the Bay Area, Jack could always make someone laugh and feel loved no matter what time of the day it was or day of the year it was. The amount of love he amassed over the 81 years of his life cannot be truly measured in our limited world of space and time, but ultimately can and will be measured in the eternity of the afterlife.
Jack will forever live in the hearts and smiles of his family and friends. We will always love you Jack.
