Ruth Haro passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025, at the age of 75.
Born on September 24, 1949, in Santa Clara, CA to Alfonso and Eleanor Viscarra, Ruth grew up in Hollister as the third of eleven children. She graduated from San Benito High School in 1968 and cherished caring for her younger siblings.
Ruth worked as an agricultural laborer in Hollister, Gilroy, and Salinas during the summers and even ran for Miss Artichoke in the 1968 Castroville Artichoke Festival. She met the love of her life, Henry Haro, in 1970, and they married that December at Sacred Heart Church in Hollister. In 1972, they settled in Gilroy and raised three children.
A devoted homemaker, Ruth also worked seasonally at the Cannery. She loved cooking, gardening, crocheting, dancing, music, festivals, casinos, the beach, and family trips to Monterey and Lake Tahoe.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 54 years, Henry Haro; their children Jason (Sandy) Haro, Patricia (Herman) Vasquez, and Bernadette Haro; grandchildren Alex (Horizon) Nunez, Kayla Haro, Larissa Priarollo, Lenai Garcia, and Josiah Vasquez; and great-grandchildren Aliyha Ochoa, Nathan Ochoa, Jaden Haro Pulido, Damien Nunez, Jacob Vasquez, and Iyla Tovar.
She is also survived by siblings Eva Ortiz, Lorraine Hermosillo, Christina Barrett, Lisa Dalling, Lydia Casas, Terri Viscarra, Alfonso Viscarra Jr., Danny Viscarra, and Arthur Viscarra, as well as her in-laws Leo (Diane) Haro, Bonifacio (Alice) Haro, and Mary Lujan.
Ruth is reunited in peace with her parents, Alfonso and Eleanor Viscarra; her in-laws, Henry Sr. and Carmen Haro; her sister Annie Galmiester; brother-in-law Robert Haro; and niece Yvonne Haro.
Ruth's love, kindness, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort and peace.
