IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ruby
Mcmurray
November 20, 1931 – March 8, 2024
Ruby McMurray passed away peacefully in her sleep when the clock struck midnight at the age of 92 at Pacific Hills Manor in Morgan Hill, California.
She was born on November 20, 1931, in Santa Cruz, California to Chester Wofford and Lily Chandler. In 1934, her only sibling, a brother Mel joined the family. A few years later in 1940, the family moved to Redwood City, California. Ruby enjoyed her school days and was always a great student. She was a faithful member of her youth group at Peninsula Assembly of God church serving as its President for one year. After graduating from Sequoia High School, she got her first job, which she loved at the Redwood City Courthouse working in the purchasing department.
In 1954, Ruby felt God's call upon her life. After leaving her job she attended Bethany Bible College/Bethany University in Scotts Valley, California. In 1955, she met Donald McMurray after he was discharged from the Navy and answered God's call on his life, and just like Ruby, entered Bethany. They attended the Freshman Banquet together and after one month Donald asked Ruby to marry him with his famous declaration to her "It's Now Or Never!" She said "Now" and on July 9, 1955, Donald and Ruby (along with her parents) drove to Reno and were married. Their lives were blessed as together they served as pastors in Lakeport and Gilroy. In addition to being missionaries in Malaysia, Thailand and other countries throughout Southeast Asia.
On March 24, 1968, a beautiful daughter, Valerie, was born who would forever change their lives beyond any expectation. She has a beautiful loving heart and shares her love for Jesus with her friends. God also blessed Valerie years later with a lovely daughter, our granddaughter Tiana Ruby on April 25, 1997, who made their lives complete. Donald and Ruby were married almost 68 years until God called Donald to his Heavenly Home on April 29, 2023. What a Wonderful Life we've had serving Jesus. He has been "So So Good." We are thankful for our church, pastors, family and friends. We love each one as they have been God's gifts to us.
My lovely, smart and always efficient Mother actually wrote her own obituary which shouldn't come as a surprise to most! She was very sociable and liked to fill her days making phone calls to friends, writing notes, and making plans to get together. I should add that she loved playing the piano, romantic movies, a fresh cup of coffee, and anything chocolate. She was truly one of a kind, extremely witty, always had everyone laughing, and was loved by all who met her.
After answering the Lord's call, she and Donald made an indelible mark that touched the lives of many. The world will never be the same without her, as she will be forever missed.
