Obituary

Roy Salinas was born on May 11, 1941 in Big Spring, Texas. He was the 3 rd of seven children born to Serapio and Maria Salinas. Roy met Mary Ellen at the Spiegal farm labor camp.  They married on November 8, 1963.

Roy was a very hard farm worker from a very early age. His hard work ethic and charisma would not go unnoticed for long. At the age of 21 he was offered a foreman position with the Defrancesco brothers, a large farming operation in Gilroy and Firebaugh. Roy would continue to work as their foreman and gain his management experience and deepen his farming operation knowledge. His entrepreneurial spirit would drive him to leverage his experience and contacts to later begin his own farming operation in partnership with his younger brother, Joe Salinas. Despite only having a 3 rd grade education, he successfully grew their farming business over the years to the point of farming 3,200 acres in addition to providing contract harvesting services, his customers would include his former employer, the Defrancesco brothers. At their peak, the Salinas Brothers farming enterprise would be the third-largest farming operation in the area, earning them an award from the Salinas Valley Growers Association for the most rapidly expanding farming enterprise in the region.

Roy had a reputation of working hard and "playing" hard. He was also very family-oriented and shared his success and good fortune with family members and the Watchtower Society, as a member of one of Jehovah's' Witnesses. Mary Ellen began studying the bible with Jehovah's Witnesses and would share this knowledge with her husband. They would later symbolize their dedication by water baptism in April 8, 1973. His managerial experience would be leveraged by the Organization, where he would proudly manage food service operations during their conventions.

Roy loved his wife and children and would travel on vacations and family outings numerous times every year, while his health permitted him to do so. After losing his wife in 2013 to a lengthy illness, Roy fell into a depression and his health began to decline. After 5 years without his loving wife, Roy's health, and willingness to continue on, finally gave out.

Roy's generosity will be remembered and appreciated by all of the lives he touched. His loss will be felt profoundly by his family. However, they take comfort he is safe in Jehovah's memory and look forward to welcoming him back when John 5:28, 29 is fulfilled, "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out…"
