IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roy Matthew
Holt
November 15, 1959 – August 31, 2021
Roy Matthew Holt, 61, passed away on August 31, 2021at his home in Gilroy, CA. He was diagnosed with grade IV glioblastoma in May 2021, and passed away due to complications from his short battle with brain cancer. Roy was born, raised, and lived in Gilroy his entire life. He is survived by his wife of 31 years (Sue), his two daughters (Lindsay and Mackenzie), his older sister (Debbie Peterson), and several cousins that live across California.
He dedicated his life to working with disabled and brain-injured individuals because he wanted them to live full and joyous lives, just like he did. Roy lost a large portion of his eyesight at a very young age, but it never slowed him down. He played basketball, football, and ran track and field competitively in high school, and as an adult, he took up golf. With the help of his friends lining him up for every drive during practice rounds and tournaments, Roy quickly skyrocketed through the ranks and was named the second best blind golfer in the world at the height of his career.
Roy was a fixture at his daughters' athletic events as well, especially their softball games. Whether it was a Little League, high school, or college game, everyone could count on him standing behind home plate and keeping better track of the game than most umpires did. Roy also loved coaching his daughters' Little League and travel ball teams. He gave players of all levels a chance to reach their potential by encouraging them to practice hard and enjoy healthy competition. After the tournaments, Roy spent hours talking about the games and various plays with the other coaches.
Roy was an outgoing, loyal friend and had a fantastic sense of humor. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
