Obituary

Rose was born to Italian immigrants (Thomas and Madeline) at the cusp of the great economic depression of 1929. A
few years later, her sister Mary was born, and the Silvestro family lived a humble life in Berkeley California. As one can
imagine, economic times were extremely tough after the stock market plunge. Through good old-fashioned hard work
and perseverance, the family saved enough money to buy a modest piece of land in 1938 along highway 101 in San
Martin CA. There wasn't any home or other improvements on the property at the time so they truly started from
scratch. The family of four lived in a tent until they could afford to build a small dwelling little by little. To make a living,
they planted a walnut orchard, raised chickens, and rabbits to sell by the roadside.

There were unrelenting future challenges to face with the advent of World War II bringing more economic hard times,
rationing of food, fuel, and durable goods that again tested their mettle along with heart breaking losses of family and
friends during the war. Growing up in this adverse environment while facing and overcoming these hardships set the
foundation for what many agree is the greatest generation of modern America.

Rose married Vincent Farotto after the war in 1947 and moved to Gilroy, CA. The couple raised three children (John,
Linda, and David) and lived in the same residence for almost 70 years. Rose and Vincent used the same work ethic and
life skills learned during the hard times to ensure their children had the best care and opportunities to succeed in their
own lives. Rose was a very kind and considerate person who always put other peoples' needs before her own. She was
very intelligent, hardworking, generous, loyal, and loving to her family and friends alike.

She had many lifelong friends and was part of the Jezebells women's club that met regularly on Friday nights to share
their experiences raising a family and plain ole just have a good time celebrating each other's company. She loved to
cook, was an avid reader, was a skilled gardener (our resident botanist), and loved to crochet just about anything. If a
new baby was on the way, she was sure to make them blankets or booties with the utmost skill and care to be ready for
that special day.

In the mid 1960's, Rose went to work as an office manager for a family run trucking business owned by John and Don
Triolo. They treated her like family her entire career that spanned decades and she even helped during their busy season
after retirement - working well into her 90's! The Farotto's are eternally grateful to the Triolo's for all the favor and
opportunity they afforded to her and our family.

Rose lost her husband Vincent in 1988 and was obviously emotionally devastated but did not lose her sense of
community as she volunteered at Wheeler hospital greeting and assisting the patients` visitors.

As time passed, Rose met Ray Shiplett through their volunteer work at St. Mary's parish and eventually were married.
Ray treated her like a queen, taking her on lots of road trips to see America's beauty firsthand. Ray and his family were a
godsend bringing her the fulfillment of marriage and an extended family once again. Ray passed away in 2007 after
leading a highly productive job at IBM along with a devout life in retirement.

Rose had many dear friends throughout her life and our family would like to extend words of gratefulness to the Elia,
Marques, Calvino, Pirozzoli, Marfia, Sotelo, Shiplett, Gabriele, Falcone, Triolo, Christopher, Banfield, Rinaldi, and Howell
families to name a few. Would also like to recognize Liliana for taking great care of Rose during the most challenging
times in her health.

Rose was also preceded in death by her sister Mary in 1973, and her parents Madeline and Thomas in 1988. She did
everything in her power to provide the best of care and comfort in their final days.

Rose is survived by her children (John, Linda, David), grandchildren and spouses (Keith, Craig, Kevin, Deirdre, Felicia,
Lisa), great grandchildren (Juliette, Caden, Vincent, Anneliese, Lianna, Luca, Austin, Joaquin, Mila, May, & baby boy
Traub), and great great grandchild (Nevaeh).

Rose believed in patience, understanding, and gratitude for what we have in dealing with life's experiences. Please be
assured she will be looking over us from heaven with adoration and encouragement to carry on her legacy.
