WW2 Hero and first "Sr. Vice President & Chief Chemist" for the Nike Corp. Passes away
Roger H. Thacher was born on February 15, 1926 in Troy New York to William & Helen Thacher. At the age of 3 he and his two brothers were placed in an orphanage. At the age of 16, he ran away and joined the army while WW2 raged on. He was a highly decorated soldier having survived the "Battle of the Bulge" and the battle on "Omaha Beach". When the war ended he met and married the love of his life, Josephine Figlia. They settled in the Fremont area and the Almaden area where they raised 3 daughters and one son. After running his own company "RoLab" for many years, Roger was recruited by Philip Knight to join the Nike group in its early stages, to be their first Chief Chemist and Sr. VP. He built many of the factories in South East Asia. Roger Passed away in Orlando Florida on February 22 nd . Funeral services will be help on Saturday May 18 th at 1:00 pm in the little chapel at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Gilroy California. Celebration of his life will follow.
