Roger Aguirre was born on March 25, 1943, in Oxnard, California, to Pedro Aguirre and Angelina Vasquez. At age 19, he was drafted into the United States Army and served honorably from 1962 to 1966 during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he settled in Gilroy, California, where he served the community as a police officer with the Gilroy Police Department.
In Gilroy, Roger met Mary Aguirre, and together they shared 39 years of marriage. Their life was built on love, hard work, and family, and the years they spent together reflected the deep devotion they held for one another and for those they loved most. Later in life, Roger and Mary enjoyed their semi-retirement in Costa Rica, where they built their dream home and the greenhouse Roger cherished. He later returned to the United States for treatment. Roger was a devoted husband, a proud father to his son, Roger Aguirre Jr., and a steady source of love, strength, and support whose legacy will live on through his family.
Roger found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including gardening, building and fixing things by hand, hiking, fishing from his boat, watching action movies, and Tuesday breakfasts with fellow retired police officers.
Roger passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026, in San Jose, California, after a long battle with stage IV cancer. He was 83 years old.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro Aguirre and Angelina Vasquez, as well as his six sisters and one brother. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Aguirre; his son, Roger Aguirre Jr.; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
Roger will be remembered for his kind heart, quiet strength, and generosity. He dedicated his life to serving his country, protecting his community, and caring for those he loved. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
A private church service will be held.
