Obituary

Rodney A. Still, son of Orval A. Still and Esther M. Helmer, was born on March 15, 1929 in Cozad, Nebraska, and passed away on October 7,2014 at the Pacific Hills Manor in Morgan Hill, California.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Noah) Still, son Craig and his wife Terri, son Cory, daughter Laura, granddaughter Carolyn, brothers Robert Still and David Still, nieces, nephews, sisters and brother-in-laws, and a list of close friends.

He joined the Navy in March 1948 as Airman Apprentice, then onto Navy Officers Candidate Program for enlisted personnel, where he entered the University of Missouri in the College of Engineering, graduating June 1953 with Bachelor's Degree, and receiving commission of Ensign in the U.S. Navy. Reported to San Francisco Naval Shipyard, orders to report to Mine Counter Measures School in Yorktown, Virginia. February 1954 orders to Japan to the Minesweeper U.S.S. Firecrest (AMS-I0). April 1955 reported to Tacoma, Washington. November 1955 got his discharge from the Navy. Returned back to San Francisco Naval Shipyard and continued with the Naval Reserves, until retiring in 1977 from the Naval Reserves as a Captain. He then worked with the Bureau of Naval Weapons Representatives, and after 32 years he finally retired from Civil Service. For 6 years he then worked with Westinghouse Corporation as a Program Manager and thereafter, retired permanently. Upon retirement, he became a lifetime member of VFW Post #6309 and member of the American Legion Post #217, located at the Gilroy Veterans Memorial Building, Gilroy, CA.

His number one hobby was bowling. Bowled in League play, National Tournaments, bowled at the Professional level with the Professional Central California bowlers. Was a Boy Scout Leader for many years. Loved gardening and tending to his "prize" roses and begonias.
Was a huge sports fanatic. He thoroughly enjoyed watching and attending sporting events with his children. He bled SF 49er RED and GOLD, SF Giant BLACK and ORANGE, and Univ. of Missouri BLACK and GOLD.
