IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roberta Ann
Anderson
November 2, 1946 – November 24, 2019
It is with great sadness that the family of Roberta Ann (Dexter) Anderson announces her passing.
Roberta was born in San Jose, California to Robert and Betty Dexter. She was the older of two children and was raised in the family home on Pacheco Pass Highway until moving to a family-built home on Canada Road in Gilroy. Her grandfather, Joseph Gubser Sr., and her uncle, Joseph Gubser, Jr., were pioneers in the Gilroy garlic industry.
Roberta attended San Ysidro Elementary School and Gilroy High School where she was a majorette for the band, and a member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She graduated from high school in 1964. She attended Gavilan Junior College for two years to complete her AA degree. While there, she met her future husband, Philip Anderson, from Hollister, and she won the title of Miss Gilroy in 1965.
Phil and Roberta were married on September 30, 1967. After marriage, Phil received orders from the United States Air Force for a two-year tour of duty in Northern Japan. While in Japan, her son, Randall Robert, was born on July 8, 1969. Upon completion of that tour, they were assigned to a fifteen-month tour in Taiwan. When Roberta and Randy returned early from Taiwan, she continued her education at San Jose State University. She graduated with a Bachelors degree in education, and continued on to receive her teaching credential. Roberta began a 34-year teaching career in elementary education for the North County Joint Union School District, in Hollister. Roberta not only worked in the classroom, but also was a Reading Specialist for Spring Grove School. Roberta welcomed her second child, Kristin Marie, on July 29, 1975.
Not only was Roberta a great teacher and mentor, but she was also a member of California Pioneers of Santa Clara County, and an active member of P.E.O. Sisterhood International. She cared for family members when they were in poor health, was always willing to give of herself, and loved her family abundantly.
Roberta came to know the Lord at a young age. She attended the Gilroy Presbyterian Church and later went on to serve as a deacon and elder. Most recently, Roberta was attending Morgan Hill Bible Church where she enjoyed participating in Women's Bible Studies.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Betty Dexter, her brother, Robert Dexter II, and her grandson, Samuel Steven Weiss. She was also preceded in death by many aunts, uncles, and cousins on both her Dexter and Gubser sides.
Roberta will always be lovingly remembered by her husband Philip of 52 years, her son Randall Anderson (wife Jennifer), and daughter Kristin Weiss (husband Steve). Her grandchildren Hannah Grace Weiss, Ethan James Anderson, and Bethany Joy Weiss will also cherish Roberta's memory.
Roberta was a loving wife and mother, a wonderful grandmother and a true friend. Her life was not only a gift to her family, but also to all who knew her. Her memory is a blessing that will be cherished forever.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Morgan Hill Bible Church, 15055 Monterey Road, Morgan Hill, California.
