IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert -
Chaigres
June 6, 1924 – February 1, 2022
Hello family and friends,
It is with great sorrow that Robert G. Chaigres has moved on to the next phase of his journey. He was born in Norwood, Texas on June 6, 1924 and lived on Canada Road in Gilroy for over 68 years he and his wife Hortencia Chaigres. Robert was still telling jokes and laughing his two greats' qualities in life. He was a very hard-working individual at the Gilroy Cannery for 38 years. He was an avid fisher back in the days when his children were young. He would fish at Moss Landing or San Luis Dam. He seemed a little reserved but once you got him talking, he would go on and on story telling. He told stories of his brother Martin Chaigres of the mischief they would do. He loved to go to the dances when he was younger him and my mother would hit the dance floor and shake it up.
Robert has lived a long and beautiful life alongside his beautiful wife Hortencia until she was taken by the angels on November 17, 2021. Then life changed for him. He was heartbroken. They spent 69 beautiful years married but were together sometime before that. They had a lot of family and friends. A lot of laughter, nighttime talks listening to the radio. He missed his wife dearly. He was taken by the angels unexpectedly which saddens the family a great deal. Robert Chaigres and Hortencia had five children together. Gloria Lopez (Louie), Robert Chaigres, David Chaigres (Georgette), Arthur, and Leticia Chaigres. Robert was born to Juan Chaigres and Tomaza Gutirrez. But he was raised by his Uncle Victor and Julia Gutirrez. He had two sibling Martin Chaigres (Elena) and Trinidad Chaigres. He was brought up with his cousin Mary Grajeda (Robert). He had nephews, Robert Grajeda, Hector Grajeda, Javier Grajeda, Albert Grajeda and Danny Chaigres. Nieces Elena Chaigres and Terisita Chaigres and Julie Chaigres.
He was a great grampa to Adrienne Rendon (Daniel), Dani Lopez (Anthony), Cesily Carrillo, Melinda Chaigres, April Popoy (Samuel) and Jimmy. He was fortunate to meet his great grandchildren: Daniel Rendon, Cal Rendon, Pippa Rendon, Uriah Hernandez, Eliana Popoy and Liliana Hernandez.
He was a pet parent to Solo Maddi, Solie, Chango, Chiquita and Tootsie. Those were his babies.
He was a loving family member to all the Sotelo family as well: Twelve brother in laws and sister in laws. Herman Sotelo, Mario Sotelo, Jesse Sotelo, Ruben Sotelo, Salvador Sotelo, Joseph Sotelo, John Sotelo, Alma Sill, Eleanor Viscarra, Elisa Polanco, Irene Pena, and Margarite Reyes. He loved his Sotelo family with all his heart.
In his last years he and his wife Hortencia loved to visit family especially Mary and Joe Gonzalez. They would have pan dulce, drink coffee, and catch up on the chisme. They also practically live at Taco Bell were they would meet up with friends and family. Even the workers knew them by name and what they were going to order.
Robert lived 97 wonderful years there are just so many stories to tell. You will hear many more stories for years to come about both Robert and Hortencia Chaigres. Robert will be missed he was the best dad ever. He was one of a kind. He is no longer here physically but he lives on through all of us and he is surely watching over us. He is already missed dearly and was loved so much. Robert will forever be in our hearts and thought forever. We love you Robert Chaigres and thank you for all of life's lessons and the notes you left behind. Bye for now until we meet again.
