Richard Henry Scattini passed away peacefully on August 27, 2023, at the age of 83. Richie was born number seven of nine children in San Jose, California on April 5, 1940, to Maude and Alfredo Scattini. He attended elementary schools in Castroville and San Juan Bautista. After graduating from San Benito Joint Union High School in 1959, he attended Gavilan College and received an accreditation from the Police Science Course

Upon completion of six months of active duty in the National Guard, Richie went on to join the San Juan Bautista police force and doubled as a sheriff deputy for San Benito County. In 1966, Richie entered the California Highway Patrol Academy in Sacramento, graduated, and was assigned to the San Jose CHP office. He later transferred to the San Benito County CHP office and retired in 1983.

Richie is preceded in death by his parents Maude and Alfredo, his brothers Alfred "Bing" Scattini, Albert "Pete" Scattini, Robert "Robbie" Scattini, as well as his sisters Elva Silveira and Arlene "Dede" Bays. Surviving him are his daughters, Dana Mills (Robert) of Hollister, CA, and Elizabeth Strause (Chris) of Richland, PA, his four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother Vernon Scattini (JoAnn), his sisters Maudine "Suzie" Furtado and Grace Morin, and many nieces and nephews.

Richie had a love for collectables, and it showed with his vintage automobiles, his aviary statues, his feathered pets, and the people that surrounded him. He always enjoyed a good story with his friends over an occasional cold beer or glass of wine! He will be laid to rest next to his sweetheart, Lucy Gori, at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park in Gilroy, CA.

Visitation will be held from 1-3:00 PM on September 12, 2023, at Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy, CA.
