Richard Joe Medellin, 69, of Gilroy, passed away January, 2022 at his home. He will be greatly missed and forever cherished by those that love him most.

He was born to parents Antonio Jr. and Elena (Garcia) Medellin on April 7,1952, in Dos Palos, California. to Antonio Jr and Elena (Garcia) Medellin.

To know Richard was to know perseverance, dedication, and respect. He was determined to succeed because failure was never an option. When he was not working, he wished that he was, so he would find work to be done. However, during football season, he might be found watching a game if the Oakland Raiders were playing

Richard's greatest achievements in life were becoming a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. The love he had for his children and grandchildren was monumental.  Richard's sons were his life and he wanted nothing more than for them to know how much he loved each one of them and he hoped that they would understand that he was only tough on them when they needed it most, because he knows they are capable of anything they put their minds to and sometimes they needed it to remind them so that they can continue to pursue the best versions of who they are and become who they want to be. When it came to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Richard was over the moon. He absolutely adored each and every one of them. No amount of time spent with them was enough for him

Richard is survived by his children, Richard Medellin Jr and Paul Medellin, both of Gilroy; his siblings, Grace Lazaro of San Jose, Gilbert (Gloria) Medellin, Teresa (Guillermo) Villasana of Hollister, Norma (Arthuro) Rodriguez of Los Banos, Henry Medellin of Roseville, Mary (Juan) Benavidez of Meridian, Idaho, Christina Hernlund-Medellin, and Sonia Flores; as well as six granddaughters, one great-granddaughter, one-great grandson, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Antonio Jr and Elena (Garcia) Medellin; his son, Ricardo Jacob Medellin; his sister, Elizabeth (Medellin) Vela; and his niece, Patricia Norma Rodriguez
