Obituary

Richard Joseph George was born July 12, 1949 in Gilroy, CA and passed away at his daughter's home on September 18, 2016.

He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Smith (Bryan), twin grandsons Domenic and Nicholas Smith, sister Patricia Freitas, brother Carl George, nephew Marc Freitas (Stacy), mother of his daughter Mary Wagle, and numerous other loved ones who he will always be an uncle to and family he was cherished by. He was predeceased by his parents, father Anthony Perry George and mother Mary Jane George (Enos).

He attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Gilroy, CA and graduated in 1963. His family moved to the Willow Glen area of San Jose in 1953 and he went on to graduate from Willow Glen High School in 1967. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1969 and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Ford Ord and Fort Huachuca, and was honorably discharged in 1975. He also attended college at San Jose City College.

Always the hard working man since the age of 14, he found employment through many places including Owens Corning Fiberglas, Raychem, Lockheed, and for the last 19 years, as a Roads Maintenance Worker for the County of Santa Clara. Although he was 67 at the time of his death, he hadn't retired because of his passion for work and the sheer enjoyment of being with his work family.

Those who knew him will remember him for his strong spirit and zest for life. Even more so for his love of riding his Harley among life-long friends wherever the wind blew him. He truly had the ability to light up a room and bring people together even during the time he was battling pancreatic cancer. He joked around whenever he got the chance, playing tricks on the unsuspecting, and his laugh will be forever etched in our minds.

His was a life gone too soon that meant so much to so many. There was hardly even enough time to say good bye given he passed away one month after diagnosis. He found peace with his time and comforted those who couldn't find that peace up until a few days before his passing. He will be deeply missed and it was a blessing just to have known this courageous warrior.
