Ralph Robert Munoz, Sr., 89 of Gilroy, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 2, 2011. He was born on October 24, 1921 in San Miguel, Jal. Mexico.
Ralph was preceded in death by his son, Ralph Munoz Jr. in 2003.
Ralph moved to Gilroy in 1976 and worked in construction all his life where he made many friends.
He retired from Granite Rock of Gilroy in 1981 and started his own concrete pumping business, with the help of his sons. After serving Santa Clara County and surrounding areas for 8 years, he retired again and had more time to enjoy fishing & boating in local reservoirs and lakes. He enjoyed classic cars and hot rods. His all-time favorite was a 1929 Roadster. He was a member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church and belonged to Teamsters Local Union 287.
Ralph joined the United States Army in November 1942 as a Machine Gunner. He was a World War II Veteran and received a Purple Heart, and was honorably discharged in 1945 @ Camp Beale, California. He also received the Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the American Campaign Medal.
Ralph is survived by his wife Virginia Munoz, daughters Pat Aguirre of Salinas, Lexi Grier of Chico, Lynda Kerr of Gilroy, and Cindi Munoz of Gilroy, and sons Rick and Randy Munoz, both of Gilroy. Ten grandchildren, Phillip Munoz, Michelle Glidden, Bobby & Bryan Aguirre, Bodie Shepherd, Tami Mungaray, Alex Nolan, Maddy & Michael Munoz & Joseph Flook. Fourteen great grandchildren, Alyssa & Rebecca Glidden, Bodie & Jordan Aguirre, Katie & Ellie Aguirre, Macy & Jake Mungaray, Tyler & Reese Shepherd, Lillie Ann & Alexis Nolan, and Damon & Gabriel Munoz.
The family would like to thank, with sincere appreciation, the team at Hospice of the Valley for their kindness and compassion that our father received during his transition.
Full military services will be held at 2pm on Friday, April 15th, 2011 at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Gustine, CA.
