Rafael Mendez died on Thanksgiving morning, November 26, 2015. His final days and hours were spent surrounded by his family who loved him dearly and friends that "Ralf" had touched in many meaningful ways throughout his life. His mother was greatly consoled by his friends who came forward to share their memories of his caring and loving nature toward them. From helping friends convalesce, being a caregiver to his aging grandfather or even feeding friends' cats, he never hesitated to help. The entire family will be forever grateful to them for this kind and thoughtful gift. Ralf was a fearless skater and lived his life with the same passion. He inherited a sharp wit and sense of humor from his maternal grandparents, and his family and friends enjoyed this side of him. Ralf is survived by his mother and stepfather, Mariaelena and Patrick Tantalo and dozens of aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Rafael Mendez, his paternal grandparents and his maternal grandmother, Petra Martinez. The family thanks all the special people at Dominican Hospital too numerous to mention that provided them with comfort and support and Ralf with skillful care and dignity in his life and death.

A visitation will begin Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 9:00 AM with a Rosary and Mass following at 11:00 AM, both at St. Mary Catholic Church, 11 First St., Gilroy, CA. Burial to follow at St. Mary Cemetery, 900 First St., Gilroy, CA.
