Obituary

Percy Syddall passed away on May 8, 2021 in his home in Gilroy, California. He was born November 23rd, 1960 in Auckland, New Zealand. He was surrounded by his loving wife and children.


Percy married the love of his life, Tupoumolakepa Kuea Mafile'o, on May 11th, 1985. They would have celebrated 36 years within three days of his passing. Percy is a proud father of five children and their spouses, Kersha Elizabeth and No'otai Rob Mataiti, Luana Claire and Ioane JJ Vaioli, Theodore Asi Tala-ki-ha'amoa and Francesca Isabelle Syddall, Noamaleniu Elena and Matthew Milton Chappell, and Salamasina Nonumalo Syddall. He is a cherished grandfather of Kalala Atarangi O'Hunaoe Mataiti, Sarai Tupoumolakepa Myrna Chappell, Malietoa Christopher Chappell, Sydele J. Eliza-Rei Vaioli, Crue Alailima Mataiti, Crichton Lamont Chappell, and granddaughter Vaioli due August 2021. He is a beloved brother/brother-in-law of Noamaleniu Syddall, Joe and Ella Eli, Alailima Pita and Yvonne Sunia-Mafile'o, Siosiua and Soma Sunia-Mafile'o, and Teuila and Sonee Tuihalangingie and dear Uncle to each of their children. He is preceded in death by his loving parents Asi Percy Jnr. Syddall and Nonumalo Noamaleniu Kalala Syddall. Percy is survived by his wife, Tupou, children, and grandchildren.


Percy loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a talented piano player and basketball player. He enjoyed traveling back to New Zealand and Samoa to visit his parents when they were alive. He was very proud of his heritage. In 1990, Percy and Tupou migrated to the United States in Sacramento, California to pursue the American dream. Their dream was realized in 2004, when they started their family business, A1care, an in-home care agency for the elderly. Their business and personal lives reflect their love and generosity to serve people. Percy is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in many callings in service to the church, including a two-year mission speaking Tagalog in the Philippines in 1980. He was dedicated to missionary work and has left a legacy of love with those he has helped come unto Christ. Percy continued to serve until the last day of life. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him and treasured deeply by his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren.
