IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia Anna
Goold
May 15, 1930 – March 24, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Patricia Anna Goold – Akina, of Wailuku, Maui, who passed away peacefully at her residence on March 24, 2025, accompanied by family.
She was born on May 15, 1930, in Gilroy, California, to Edgar F. Downing and Anna L. Downing. A graduate of Gilroy High School, she continued her education at Gavilan College and San Jose State University, ultimately becoming a Licensed Vocational Nurse with a focus on geriatrics.
She was first married to Thomas Goold, with whom she shared 23 years of marriage and raised two sons. In 1979, she married Alex Akina, and together they built a vibrant life full of travel across Europe and the Middle East. They enjoyed gardening and ran several successful businesses, including a bus company with school and tour contracts and a fishing fleet.
Patricia will be fondly remembered for her deep compassion and generous spirit. She had a lifelong love of reading, camping, fishing, and caring for both people and animals—especially dogs and cats. She was a passionate advocate for water safety and worked as a children's water safety instructor. Her commitment to helping others extended to her work with Child Protective Services as a social worker for young mothers. Affectionately known as "Auntie" by many in her community, Patricia had a heart for service and a talent for making others feel cared for and seen.
She is survived by her sons and their wives, Patrick & Mercy Goold and Thomas & Phoebe Goold; grandchildren Mary Lou Vaiz, Patrick Jaime Goold, Karen Allen, and Donald Goodwin; and great-grandchildren David Vaiz, Jonathan Vaiz, Tristin Goold, Jack Allen, Abbey Allen, Luke Allen, Devin Goodwin, and Reagan Goodwin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Anna Downing; her husbands, Thomas Goold and Alex Akina; and her siblings, Ed Downing, Dorthea Púa, and Fern Lawton.
Per Patricia's wishes, no services will be held. Her family honors her memory with love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived.
