Obituary

Norma Jean (Nordstrom) Wiedeman passed on Monday April 3rd 2023 at 1:09AM at Sunny View Skilled Nursing facility in Cupertino, CA.

Norma was born on February 7th, 1935 in Wheatland, Wyoming to Alvin Bernard and Esther Tobina (Wiltfang) Nordstrom.  She was the eldest of two children.  Norma grew up in Wyoming and several locations in Nebraska including Bridgeport and Norfolk.  Norma graduated from Norfolk Senior High School 1953. She was baptized at the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod in San Jose, CA.

In 1955 while attending a friend's wedding, she met Wayne Eugene Wiedeman, who was friends with the groom.  They got married on November 22, 1956 in San Jose California.  She and Wayne are the proud parents of Deb, Jim and Dave.

Norma and Wayne lived in San Jose from 1955 to 1971, when they moved to Gilroy, California and purchased 15-acres and planted a vineyard.

Norma started working at the Gilroy Parks and Recreation Department in November 1971, immediately after moving to Gilroy, where she was the office administrator until she retired in 1990.

Their family vacations were largely camping trips starting with sleeping on the ground to eventually inside campers and RVs. Norma enjoyed traveling very much and would have loved to have lived permanently in a RV. She also was very fond of cruising and spent many vacations on board cruise ships and river boats in Europe, Caribbean, Russia, South America circumnavigating Cape Horn, Alaska and on the Mississippi River.

Several years ago, Norma and Wayne purchased a home in Palm Springs where they would winter to avoid the cold winters of Northern California.  They met many couples from throughout the United States and Canada, with whom they communicate on a regular basis and have formed long-term friendships.

Norma is survived by her daughter Debra Neustel of Phoenix, Arizona; son James Wiedeman and his wife Paula Shea of Sunnyvale, California; son David Wiedeman of Lynnwood, Washington; granddaughter Amy and her husband RJ Boysen and their two daughters Fiona and Phoebe of Chandler, Arizona; and grandson Spencer and his wife Alex (Barile) Wiedeman and their daughter Amelia of Walnut Creek, California; and her niece, Beth Martin of Los Angeles, California.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her parents and her sister, Lois Martin.
