Nancy Ciacco, born May 15, 1918 passed away, peacefully, in her home December 1, 2014. Nancy was 96 years old, and a Gilroy resident for approximately 70 years. She was born on the family ranch in San Jose where they farmed apricots. Nancy worked with the family cutting apricots, cherries, and prunes. She also worked at the cannery. She moved to Gilroy after she was married. Nancy was an avid homemaker, a wonderful cook and gardener. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She is preceded in death by her parents Antonio and Catherine La Barbera; husband of 51 years, Frank Ciacco; daughter Francine; 6 brothers, Henry, Dominic, Frank, Joseph, Tom, and Mario La Barbera; 2 sisters, Josephine Boscacci, and Constance Spatola; and grandson Mark T Santos. She is survived by sisters Rosalie Moresi of Novato, Catherine Moresi of Ticino, Switzerland and Ann La Barbera of San Jose; children Kathy Santos (and Roger), Al Ciacco (and Keri); grandchildren Leanne Santos-Haygood (and Leon) of Gilroy, Roxine Ciacco (and Paul), and Rianna Ciacco from Clovis; and great-grandchildren Mark J Santos, Beau and Tim Haygood, Tony Caliri, Nate Bermudez and Tyler Ciacco; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nancy was famous for her baking, especially at Christmas time. She spent days in the kitchen during the holidays making Almond Rocca, peanut brittle, fudge, rocky road, biscotti, Italian wedding cookies, and many others. She gave them to family and neighbors and brought them to all of the Christmas parties. Nancy was a long-time member of the Italian Catholic Federation (Branch 28). She will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held Saturday Dec 6, at 12:30 pm at Habing Funeral Home with a Funeral Mass at 1:30pm at St Mary's Parish in Gilroy followed by entombment at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
