Mona Roslyn Mitchell, 91, died peacefully at home on March 25th, 2019. Mona was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Born in Toronto, Canada to Mary and Joseph Shapiro, Mona moved to Southern California with her sister when she was 20 years old. She married her husband, Lucas Mitchell, on December 6th, 1947. They lived in many different places together, including South America, South Carolina, Fremont, CA, Butte, MT, and Gilroy, CA where they settled in 1985.

Mona loved dancing and opera music, and she was an avid reader. She also had a deep love for science fiction. One may have considered her a Trekkie .

When many people start to slow down in life, Mona continued to explore her hobbies and interests. She began taking tap lessons and became involved with Women in Touch II. She also worked for VF Factory Outlet for 11 years until it closed, which brought her so much joy.

Mona was admired for her fierce independence and quick wit, and she was still driving at the age of 90.

Mona is survived by her brother, Elliot; her children Cheryl (Don), Vicky, Linda (Tom), and Nick (Patty); her grandchildren Jason, Lauren (Chad), Andrea, Kevin, Chuck, and Amber; her great-grandchildren Nicholai, Mia, Lucas, and Caitlin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be from 10am-12pm on Thursday, April 4th at Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy, CA.

Funeral service will be at 2pm on Thursday, April 4th at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Fremont, CA.
