MIchael J. Peralta

Michael J. Peralta, age 79, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, at the VA Menlo Park care facility, where he spent his final eight years surrounded by exceptional care and comfort.

Born on August 8, 1946, in San Jose, California, Michael was raised in the close-knit community of Gilroy. He was the son of Ella and Joseph "Papa Joe" Peralta, whose family left a lasting mark on the town as the proud owners of Peralta's Busy Bees-a local restaurant that later became the Longhouse. Growing up in the family business taught Michael the value of hard work, community, and hospitality, traits that defined his warm spirit throughout his life.

Following his roots in Gilroy, Michael proudly answered the call to serve his country in the United States Navy. A brave and dedicated veteran of the Vietnam War, he served with profound honor as a skilled Navy diver, courageously saving pilots who were shot down over the water during the conflict. For his exceptional valor and meritorious service, he was awarded the Bronze Star along with other military medals and ribbons.

While in the Navy, Michael also mastered the trade that would define his professional life, training to become a highly skilled electrician. As a civilian, Michael became well known throughout the tri-county area for his exceptional electrical expertise. His reputation for high-quality, reliable work earned him prestigious projects, including remodel work on Clint Eastwood's home on the Monterey Peninsula. He was widely recognized as one of the strongest, most dedicated, and hardest-working professionals in his field.

Michael's love for service extended far beyond his career. Deeply rooted in his hometown, he spent decades giving back to his community, often working side-by-side with his father, Joseph, on countless local charities and fundraisers. Michael was a familiar, hardworking face at the Saint Mary’s Church Spaghetti Feed, the Gilroy Garlic Festival, the Gilroy Elks Lodge, and the Portuguese Hall.

When he wasn't working or volunteering, Michael embraced life with joy. He loved spending his free time fishing and was happiest when entertaining his family and friends, filling the home with warmth, laughter, and hospitality.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Ella and Joseph Peralta, and his brothers, Eddie and Richard.

He is survived by his spouse, Gloria, and his loving sister, Marion Sarver. He also leaves behind a proud legacy through his children: Jess Alonzo Jr. (Inga), Michael Alonzo, Leticia Alonzo-Baldonado (Felix), Lorraine Alonzo-Snapp (David), Christy Peralta-Hernandez (Ernie), and Charles Peralta (Stephanie). He is also survived and deeply loved by his 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Habing Family Funeral Home, 129 4th St., Gilroy, CA. Following the service, Michael will be laid to his final resting place with military honors at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park, 1000 1st St., Gilroy, CA.

A Celebration of Life will follow at the Gilroy Veterans Hall / VFW Post 6309 (74 W. 6th St., Gilroy, CA) from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
