Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Mary Greco Pirozzoli passed away on July 27, 2012. She was born on September 21, 1926 in Donnici, Italy to Carmen and Rosina Greco. Mary came to the United States when she was 3 years old . Mary lived in Nescquehoning, Pennsylvania before moving to California to live with relatives. Mary met and married her husband William "Bill" Pirozzoli in 1946. Mary joined Bill in the family bakery and deli, called the New Gilroy Bakery with Bill's brother Mike and his wife Marie. Both families worked hard in the family business for over 40 years.The Pirozzoli's were known for their French and Italian breads, people often commented to Mary on how they miss the bread and the bakery. Mary and Bill retired from this well known Gilroy establishment in 1986. After retirement, they enjoyed traveling with friends and family. Mary's biggest joy was spending precious moments with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary was proceeded in death by her loving husband Bill. She leaves behind her sons Bill (Ginny), Rich (Micki), and daughter Cheryl (Chris). Her grandchildren Ken (Meghan), Kevin (Sonia), Tim (Cara), Michelle (Brad), Dominic, Monique (Mario), Katie (Ron), Cristeen, and Nate. Her great-grandchildren: Kaylee, Isabella, Emory, Maya Chanel, and Mary Jane. Brother Mike (Loretta) Greco and sister-in-law Marie Pirozzoli and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Mary is known for her delicious Italian cookies and wonderful Italian dishes. The coffee was always on to welcome guests. You would never leave Mary's house without some type of treat. Mary belonged to various local organizations (Sons of Italy, Italian Catholic Federation (ICF), Catholic Ladies Aide Society, Women in Touch, St. Mary's Church, and St. Mary's Mothers Club). She taught her children the value of giving back and making a difference in your community.
The family is grateful for the loving care given to Mary by her long time caregiver and friend Irma. Also, the care and support of Lilliana, Melisa, Mariana, Debbie, and Mercedes.
Mary was a loving mother, a wonderful grandmother and a true friend. Her life was not only a gift to her family, but also to all who knew her.
The memory of her spirit, strength, wisdom, and love of life will live on through countless joyful memories.
Viewing will be from 2 to 6 PM on Friday, August 3, 2012. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Habing Family Funeral Home and then proceed to St. Mary's Catholic Church for a Funeral Mass at 2:00 PM.
Entombment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, 900 First Street, Gilroy, CA.
