IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary J
Blaettler
December 7, 1953 – March 10, 2023
After a long illness, Mary Joan Blaettler surrendered to eternal life on Friday, March 10. She was 69 years old. Sweet Mary grew up on a 110-acre farm northwest of Gilroy with her parents, Genevieve and Peter Blaettler, and six siblings -- Dan, Jim, Bonnie, John, Diane, and Peter. In the mid 1970's Mary relocated to Santa Cruz. She lived most of her life along the Pacific coast. Possessed of a fierce intellect and keen memory, Mary was a great listener. Her gentle way and vigorous giving brought comfort and joy to those lucky enough to be in her life. She was active in women's rights and local women's communities. Mary loved teaching and later was a passionate social worker for Santa Cruz Mental Health Services. Mary also was devoted to her gardening, art, writing, and music as a drummer. So many lives have been deeply enriched by Mary. Even while embracing death, she was able to energize others with her quick humor and charm. She will be greatly missed! The family is deeply thankful for the loving care given Mary by Santa Cruz Valley Hospice. Donations in her name may be earmarked for the Volunteer Visitor Program, 940 Disc Drive, Scott's Valley, CA 95066. A memorial service will be held on April 1, 11 AM in the chapel located inside St. Mary Church, 11 First Street, Gilroy. Feel free to wear bright colors and designs.
