Maria Apolonia "Paula" Alonzo Mirelez

Passed away on Friday, January 7, 2010 at age 88. Maria Apolonia was known to most as Paula. She was born in Carrizo Springs, Texas on October 22, 1921. Paula leaves behind sons: David, Ruben and Ray; daughter-in-laws Sherry and Cathy; grandchildren: Sara, Nathaniel, Jacob, Joshua and Christopher, great-grand children: Wesley and Daniel, and many nieces and nephews. Her husband Richard M. Mirelez (d. 1989), her parents, and all of her brothers and sisters preceded her in death. She was the last of 11 siblings.

Paula was a resident of Gilroy since 1947. She was employed as a seasonal worker at California Canners and Growers (formerly know as Filice and Perelli). She was a beautiful person both inside and out. She had a joyful spirit, was giving, loving, and caring. A long time volunteer at the Senior Center, she was recognized for her enthusiasm and hard work as "Volunteer of the Year 2001". We loved her and will miss her greatly.

Friends and family are invited to attend the Viewing and Rosary on Wednesday, January 13th, with the service beginning at 7:00 pm at Habing Family Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held in her honor on Thursday, January 14th at St. Mary's Church in Gilroy at 10:00 am.
