Obituary

Maria Eligia Garcia, age 77, passed away in her Gilroy home on December 30, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Saturday, January 5 th at St. Mary's Church in Gilroy followed by a burial at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park.  Arrangements are by Habing Family Funeral Home.

Ligia was born in Costa Rica to Secundino and Jacinta Alvarez on November 17, 1941.  She moved to the United States when she was 18 years old.  She met Jorge and they were married on December 5, 1970.  After living in New Jersey and giving birth to their first son George, they moved to New York where their youngest son, Gerard was born.  In 1979 they moved to Uruguay and in 1985 they moved to Gilroy, which has been their home ever since.  She was a member of the Catholic Italian Ladies Group at St. Mary's.  Ligia enjoyed her family as well as spending time in her garden.

Ligia is preceded in death by her father, Secundino.  She is survived by her mother in Costa Rica, Jacinta Alvarez; loving husband of 48 years Jorge Garcia; two sons George Garcia (Novia Cheng) and Gerard (Bernice) Garcia; grandchildren Savannah, Sydney, Ethan and Chase as well as several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Foundation
