Obituary

Mrs. Margaret "Kimiko" (Kim) Jae Soon Corbett, nee Yi, of Morgan Hill died at her home on May 23, 2022.  She was 89.  Kim was born March 3, 1933 in Seoul, in what is now South Korea.  She began a career in medicine when she volunteered to work in Republic of Korea Army field hospitals which were attached to the US Eighth Army during and after the Korean War.  After the war, she worked at St. Lazarus Village in Anyang, a leper colony run by the Maryknoll Missionaries.  In 1959, Kim emigrated to the United to attend a medical program at the University of Pennsylvania and became a registered nurse.  She initially worked as an RN but took a job at a chemical company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she would meet Robert Corbett whom she would later marry.  They loved spending time together and would go fishing in many places in the Philadelphia area.  When Robert got a job offer at Lockheed in Sunnyvale, CA, they drove across country in a VW Beetle and made it to San Francisco in time for the Summer of Love of 1967.  Kim enjoyed travelling, gardening, cooking, fishing, camping and many outdoor activities with her husband.  They lived in a variety of locations in the Bay Area before they bought their home in Gilroy, California.  At this point Kim became a homemaker and was busy raising her son and tending her gardens as well as the animals on their property.  Robert, sadly pre-deceased her in 2008.   She is survived by her son, Stephen and his wife Tatyana of Marina, CA.  A graveside service will be held at St. Mary Cemetery on Saturday, June 25, 2022.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Sisters of St. Joseph (Chestnut Hill, PA), a Korean children's charity such as SOS Children's Villages or to the Maryknoll Missionaries.
