Marcelina Gonzalez, affectionately known as Chelo to her family and friends, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, September 14, 2025, at the age of 91.

Born on July 17, 1934, in Gilroy, California, Chelo spent her entire life surrounded by the people and community she cherished. She will be remembered for her kind heart, joyful spirit, and the warmth she shared with everyone she met.

Chelo's greatest joy was her family. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. A strong and independent woman, she worked hard both inside and outside her home, always providing love and strength for those around her.

She is survived by her children, Daniel Lopez (Josie) and Angelo Ponce; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Gloria Lopez, Petra Larson (Pete), Raymond Lopez (Maria), and Frank Lopez (Victoria).

Chelo was preceded in death by her husband, Nicolas Gonzalez; her parents, Chico and Cuca Lopez; sisters, Lola Cesena and Rosa Ortega; and brothers, Raul Lopez, Joe Lopez, Nick Lopez, Jesse Lopez, and Tony Lopez.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Mollie Lopez and Marcella Retiz for their loving support and compassion during Chelo's final days.

Though she will be deeply missed, Chelo's love, laughter, and spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her
