Mamie Ethel Gwinn 90 passed away at home on May 28. She was born January 22, 1931 in Texola, Oklahoma to Harold and Nani Good. Ethel had a long battle with dementia. Ethel is survived by her 4 children, Marla Esperanca, Vance Gwinn and wife Norma, Lana Wright and husband Doug, Craig Gwinn and wife Kathleen, her 9 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great, Great Grandchild. Many in laws, nieces and nephews. Ethel was preceded in death by her beloved husband Warren Gwinn, her brother Wayne Good, her father Harold Good and mother Nani Good.
In the early 1940's Ethel's family moved from Oklahoma to Richmond, California where here parents worked in the war effort building ships. When Ethel was entering her freshman year of high school, the family moved to Gilroy California, where Ethel attended Gilroy high for her freshman year. The following year they moved to Morgan Hill and Ethel attended Live Oak High School where she met her future husband, Warren. They were married in Reno, Nevada on May 22, 1952. Ethel and Warren were married for 65 years.
During high school, Ethel was very involved in many clubs and was a Live Oak Cheerleader along with Warren. While attending Live Oak, Ethel worked at the Corner Drug Store in downtown Morgan Hill. Ethel worked a variety of jobs after being a stay-at-home mom for 12 years. She worked at Sunsweet Cannery and later as a secretary for McElroy Lumber. Ethel then had a long career at South Valley Medical Clinic where she started as a medical clerk and went on to become the Office Supervisor. She retired after 25 years at the clinic at the age of 62.
In the early years of Ethel and Warren's marriage, Ethel was a stay-at-home mom. She was very involved with her kids' activities and her community. Ethel served as President of the PTA for San Martin School, a 4-H Leader for the San Martin 4-H Club, and as a Sunday School Teacher at her church.
Ethel and Warren loved their Wednesday night square dance lessons with the Morgan Hill Hillbillies, as well as their Saturday night Hoe Downs. Many of their lifelong friends were also in the square dance club which made it all the more enjoyable. Some years later, Ethel and Warren went on to join a Round Dance Club called The Happy Hearts. They loved to dance and were so smooth together and a joy to watch.
Ethel loved her family and friends above all else, and cherished the time and moments they shared. She lived a life full of love, happiness and many amazing experiences. She will be so greatly missed by her family and friends.
