Obituary

Lucy passed away peacefully in her home just ten days short of her 105th birthday. She was born in El Paso, Texas, to Melesio Castelo and Rosario Olivas. After a few early years in Chihuahua, Mexico, the family moved to Southern California, living in the Los Angeles area, the San Diego area, and the Coachella Valley. Her first marriage (in Coachella) produced two children Edward and Rosemary Limon. Her second marriage to Toribio (Toby) Solorzano produced six children, Toby Jr., Steve, Greg, Daniel, Lucy Jr., and Anna. The family moved around California, spending time in Kern County and the Los Angeles area, among other places, before finally settling permanently in Gilroy in 1960.

In her early days Lucy helped out in her parents' small, neighborhood markets. After her marriage she sometimes joined Toby in farm labor, later working at Gubser Garlic and Gentry (garlic processing plant). She loved cooking and baking, various needle arts, gardening, reading, music and dancing, and spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Toby, her sons Edward and Toby Jr., her brother Raul, and her granddaughter Liana. She is survived by her daughters Rosemary (Jim) Putman, Lucy Jr., and Anna (Charlie) Lujan, sons

Steve (Lilly), Greg (Petra), and Daniel, and two daughters-in-law, Blanca (Edward) and Barbara (Toby Jr.). She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren} and 6 great-great grandchildren.

There will be a Visitation at 9AM & a Funeral Mass at 10AM on Wednesday October 13, 2021 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Gilroy.
