Obituary

Louise Patricia Vogel (89), of Gilroy, CA  entered her eternal home while at Primavera Gardens in Morgan Hill, CA on July 16, 2022, after complications from a stroke in early May.

Louise was born May 29, 1933 in Gilroy, CA to Carmen and Petra (Zuniga) Paredes. While young, she was sent to live with her grandparents in Hollister, CA where her grandmother encouraged her to play at cooking and baking in the kitchen. She lived in Hollister until high school graduation in 1952. In1953 she returned to Gilroy to cook in the family restaurant which was well known for its Mexican food.

Louise met her husband, William J. Vogel, while cooking in the restaurant; they later married in Gilroy on August 3rd, 1957.  After raising their three children, Louise briefly attended a Women's program at Gavilan College and then began a 24 year career with Gilroy Unified School District as a teacher's aide, where she touched the lives of many young children.

Louise was an active parishioner at St. Mary's Catholic Church as well as a long-time volunteer for Operation Interdependence. She lived a full life and was interested in various activities such as bowling, playing cards, sewing, gardening, crafting, traveling, watching TV, reading, and spending time with family and friends. Cooking and baking, however, were her ultimate passions. She was known far and wide for her homemade fruit pies and Mexican food, especially her tamales and tortillas. Her family has fond memories of standing in line for hot, homemade tortillas; nothing made her happier than cooking for others. She was an avid prayer warrior for many, many years. Every night she prayed for family and friends as she walked down her hallway of pictures. She was fiercely devoted to her family and friends and was happiest in their company. A survivor of many difficult life circumstances, her kindness, generosity, strong faith, grace, and witty sense of humor set an enduring example for all.

Louise was preceded in death by her husband William J. Vogel, parents Carmen Paredes and Petra (Zuniga Paredes) Landeros, and all of her seven siblings: Marcel (Isabel) Paredes, Catherine (Anthony) Coletto, Frank (Carol) Paredes, Jennie (Mike) Avila, Ida Delancy and two infants Vicente and Alfonso Paredes.

She is survived by her children, William J. (Sandra) Vogel Jr., Natalie (Jim) Black, and Audrey (Steve) Blanding, along with grandsons Garrett and Scott Vogel; Lucas (Alicia), Jacob (Kaylin), Christian, and Weston (Ashley) Black. Great grandchildren Madison, Blakey, Beau, Palmer, and Joanna Black continually brought her laughter and joy.

She also leaves behind a large extended family including countless cousins, nieces, nephews, longtime friends and co-workers, and numerous "adopted" children and grandchildren.

Her love and care for others was boundless.

We would like to share our sincere gratitude to all those who played a valuable role in caring for her throughout her lifetime. We will forever be thankful.

Donations can be made in her name to Saint Joseph's Family Center in Gilroy or to the charity of your choice.

A 9:30 am Rosary and 10:00 am Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Gilroy on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, with interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Gilroy.

A celebration of life will follow at Fortino Winery, Gilroy.

Mom had requested that those attending her service wear cheerful colors.
