Obituary

Kevin Leonard Blount was born on August 27, 1954 in Birmingham, Alabama.

He was the second son of Walker C. Blount Sr and Lyniece Cobb Blount and younger brother to Walker C. Blount Jr. The family lived in Birmingham Alabama until 1959, Kevin's first four years, until the family decided to move West to Los Angeles California for better opportunities.

After elementary school, Kevin showed signs of promise in music. At Foshay Junior High School he continued enhancing his skills in learning to play the trumpet. As a student at Dorsey High School, Kevin excelled in music as the lead trumpet player in his high school band while lettering in Track and Field. In a short time, he became an accomplished Jazz musician in his school's dance band.

During his high school tenure, Kevin lost his father at the young age of 46 from complications of an aneurysm. Despite this tragic loss for the family, Kevin continued to excel in high school until graduation with his mother's and brother's love and support.

Kevin attended the University of Long Beach State where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with emphasis on Marketing in 1977. In 1980 he completed his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Taxation at Golden Gate University. In 1983 from California, he obtained his Community College Instructor Credentials for teaching accounting and business/industrial management. These credentials are valid for life.

After graduation, he received a job offer in Denver, Colorado from the global company Parsons Corporation as the youngest person of color with broad responsibilities for assessing and managing multi million dollar contracts during his career with the corporation.

His success in business led to an interest in Law. He applied to and was accepted by one of the top law schools in the country, "Hastings College of the Law School" located in the San Francisco Bay area. Looking to blaze a new trail, he moved from Denver to Oakland to attend law school. During his studies in law school, he interned for the district attorney's office in Oakland. Kevin completed his studies and graduated from law school with a Juris Doctorate Law Degree in 1984

Kevin later moved back to Los Angeles to be close to his mother. He always stayed close to Track and Field over the years. This led to a volunteer position as the assistant to the head coach for the Track and Field team for the University of Southern California (USC). He was a guiding light to young students on the track team on and off the track by helping some students to get scholarships and financial aid.

Later, Kevin developed an interest in the entertainment world. Through work as an actor in television and movies, he achieved the opportunity to become a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) member. A couple of his most notable appearances was in the movie "Kingdom Come" and in an episode of "Grey's Anatomy".

As a member of SAG, he provided early evaluations and feedback of movies prior to release in the theaters and voted for SAG award nominees.

Acting gave Kevin an ease with public speaking and a calm thoughtfulness in difficult situations. These traits along with being an intellectual have always opened doors and sustain Kevin throughout his life.

Kevin will be missed by all those he touched in his life.

Kevin is survived by his brother, Walker Blount Jr. and his sister in law, Beverly Blount, and his niece Stefany Blount.

He is also survived by his uncle, Oscar Cobb, his cousins Pauline Medley, Cheryl Hosey, Melinda Taylor, Cassandra Chappelle, and second cousin Arlivia Harris.

Memorial Services will be held Friday, April 14, 2023  1:00 P.M. at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy.
