Karin (Kari) Shook passed away at the age of 49 at her home in Gilroy, CA. She was surrounded by her family. Kari had struggled with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for many years and had survived breast cancer in 2020. This time, the cancer was just too much for her. Kari is no longer in pain and received her last wish, which was to have all the kids with her as she passed. Kari loved to be with family and friends. She was a loving mother, wife, sister, aunt, daughter, co-worker, instructor, and friend.

Kari was born in San Jose, CA. and lived there through the fifth grade until her family moved to Gilroy, CA. She graduated from Gilroy High in 1991 and Gavilan College in 1996. Kari and her then husband, Scott Popma, and two children eventually moved to Turlock in 2000. Kari and her daughter Meghan Popma returned to Gilroy in 2016 to help take care of her mom and be with the love of her life Ryan Shook. Kari worked as a Pharmacy Technician at Longs Drugs and eventually CVS for nearly 25 years. She taught pharmacy technician courses at San Joaquin Valley College for a few years, which she loved. Kari served as a board member of the Turlock Youth Soccer Association. She loved to volunteer at the Garlic Festival, fireworks booth, snack shack sales, and whatever else needed to be done to help the kids' sports teams.

Kari and Ryan Shook "dated" in junior high and reconnected on Facebook in 2009. They eventually married in 2018. They shared their lives together as a blended family known as The Gaggle. Kari loved watching the kids play soccer, volleyball, cheer, football, dance, gymnastics or whatever the kids where doing; she was there. Even though MS had limited her mobility, she still managed to travel to see family. She loved the beach, Lake Tahoe, camping, college and pro sports games, and any new adventure Ryan could take her on.

Kari is survived by her husband, Ryan Shook; children, Corey (Aubree) Popma, Zach Popma, and Meghan Popma; stepchildren Raeanne Ceballos and Macale Ceballos. She is also survived by her mother Edith Giovannoni; brother Joe Giovannoni, his fiancé Jennifer Nowark; sister Lori (Matt) Edwards; sister in-law Nicole (Shawn) Shevlin; nieces Makenzie, Sarah, Aerin, Crystallyn, Ashlyn, and Kassidy; nephews Seth and Jordan; aunt and God-Mother Sister Joyce Giovannoni; mother in-law Denise (John) Ceballos; mother in-law Arlene Livingston; mother in-law Debbie Popma; father in-law Jerry (Patti) Shook, and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends. Kari is preceded in death by her father Brian Giovannoni.
