Julia A. Mello passed away on May 15, 2020 surrounded by her family.
Julia was 88 years old. She was born on March 27, 1932 to Frank and Marie Lopes. Julia was the fifth of nine children. Julia grew up in Riverdale, CA where she attended Bender Grammar School and graduated from Riverdale High Scholl in 1949.
Julia worked 35 years for Joseph Gubser Jr. Garlic Company. Following her retirement from Gubser, Julia worked with her husband Joseph Mello for 15 years as bookkeeper and office manager for their berry business, Mello's 21st Century Berry Farm.
Julia was a devout Catholic and a longtime parishioner of St. Mary Church in Gilroy, CA. Julia loved spending her time gardening, doing her crossword puzzles after reading the morning paper while drinking her coffee and loved watching the Hallmark Channel, EMTN, Mother Angelica and Mars three times a day. Julia loved getting her hair done every Friday. She also enjoyed spending time with family and making trips back to Riverdale to visit her two beloved sisters, Delores Carreiro and Lena Carreiro. Julia will be remembered for her giving nature, calm attitude and unconditional love.
She is survived by her daughter Christine Strohm and son in law Richard Strohm of Nevada City, daughter Elizabeth Amarante of Hillmar, as well as her six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Julia was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Mello, son Michael Mello and daughter Joanne Mello-Soto.
