With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Jennie Baltazar. Jennie peacefully passed away at home on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the age of 80, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on June 24, 1945, in Brawley, CA, to Delfina Martinez.
Jennie dedicated over 30 years of her life to the Gilroy Unified School District, holding various positions, with her final 20 years spent in the Food Service department—a role she truly loved. As an excellent cook, she took great pride in feeding and serving the students.
Jennie was the matriarch of our family, and her home was always the central gathering place—filled with love, laughter, and delicious food. Her door was always open, and she welcomed everyone with warmth. Jennie was a passionate fan of the Raiders and the San Francisco Giants. You could always hear her yelling "Idiot!" at the TV whenever a player messed up, showing just how much she loved her sports.
Jennie was preceded in death by her mother, Delfina Martinez; her husband, Joe Baltazar; her son, David Lira Sr.; and two sisters, Vicky and Sandra.
She is survived by her children: Peter Lira, Brenda (Ismael) Beltran, Gina Baltazar, Lisa (Felix) Pasillas, Monica Baltazar; and her grandson whom she raised, Vince Nino. She also leaves behind 27 grandchildren, twice as many great-grandchildren, and four great-great-granddaughters. Jennie is also survived by her siblings Betty San Miguel and Ralph (Nina) Navarro, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who became family. Throughout her life, she was surrounded by the love of her family.
A graveside service will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Friday, December 26, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by a reception at the Veteran’s Hall, located at 74 W. 6th St., Gilroy, CA.
