Obituary

JOY CLARK JOHNSON -- 1928 - 2014. Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Joy Clark Johnson, passed from this life Sunday, November 9, 2014. She was born in Denver, Colorado, on July 30, 1928, the sixth of seven children, to John Perry and Mary Jetta Christensen Clark. Joy graduated from high school in Fort Lupton, Colorado, and earned her bachelor's and master's degrees at California State University, Long Beach. She taught Speech Therapy in Los Angeles County schools. Joy married Richard W. Johnson on April 24, 1948, sealing their marriage vows in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Joy and Richard lived and raised their children in Boulder, Colorado, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Culver City and Playa del Rey, California. Joy was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in numerous teaching and leadership positions. Relief Society was one of her favorite callings. Joy was very creative and talented, making gifts and keepsakes for family and friends. She and Richard served their community for years by devoting time and resources to the Los Angeles Food Bank. Joy enjoyed traveling throughout the world with her husband, family and dear friends. She dearly loved her family and traveling friends. She found great joy in serving others.

Joy is survived by her husband of 66 years, Richard W. Johnson, and their five children: Carol (Allan) Hymas, Grand Junction, CO; Robert Clark (Maxine) Johnson, Suisun City, CA; Barbara (Allan) Kogan, Dallas, TX; Janet (Dan) Hill, Omaha, NE; Diane (John) Goodman, Los Angeles, CA; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren. Joy is also survived by sister, Janice Clark Romney, Meridian, ID, and brother, Ralph D. Clark, Centennial, CO. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Irwin, Margaret, Raymond, and Virginia.

Funeral services will be conducted by Bishop David Faulk of Morgan Hill Second Ward, Morgan Hill California Stake at 12 noon, Saturday, November 15, 2014, at Habing Family Funeral Home, 129 Fourth Street, Gilroy, California. Private family inurnment.
