IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Josephine
Jimenez
February 23, 1938 – August 22, 2024
It is with great sadness that we share the sudden passing of our mother Josephine Jimenez on Thursday, August 22, 2024. She was our heart, soul, and center.
Josephine was born in San Jose, California to Linda and Giacomo (Jack) Oneto. She was the oldest of three daughters and was raised in San Jose. Her first language was Italian and she did not learn English until she began grammar school. She attended Notre Dame High School and earned a B.A. at San Jose State majoring in History with a minor in French.
After college, Josephine worked at the Internal Revenue Service in San Francisco. It was there that she met Fernando Jimenez. They married in April of 1964, settled in San Jose and began a family the following year. The family moved to Gilroy in October 1973, where she lived in the same home until her passing.
Josephine worked as an Enrolled Agent for approximately 45 years serving many clients and making life-long friends. She was also a beloved member of her community serving as President of the St. Mary Mother's Guild, using her accounting skills counting money after weekly masses at St. Mary Church and the Gilroy Garlic Festival and many other organizations.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Carla Jimenez and Dave Karoly, Karen and John McCarry, Douglas and Jennifer Jimenez; her grandchildren: Cailin, Clare, and Owen McCarry; Carmen and Gabriel Jimenez; sisters Anita Lucas (Jim) and Dorothy Carroll (Joe) and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Her interests and passions included her family, cross-stitch, gardening, cooking, baking, crossword puzzles, games with her grandchildren, and traveling. There were always 6 to 8 types of cookies in her freezer at any time, so we could bring our tins to be re-filled after each visit. It was also important to her to expose her children and grandchildren to opera, musicals, and she encouraged them to travel and seek out adventures.
Our family would like to thank the many people in her life that also cared for her with their love, friendship and kindness, showing her what a value she was to everyone. We especially want to recognize her weekly Tuesday Coffee Group, Wednesday sewing group and her other family at Vanni & Humphrey (formerly Jimenez, Seledon, Kawafuchi & Humphrey), where she worked for over 45 years. If it had not been for Covid, she may still have been working during tax season.
A service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on August 28, 2024, at Saint Mary Church.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the St. Joseph Family in Josephine's memory.
