Joseph Duran Sr age 90 left this world peacefully on April 21, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love and unwavering devotion to family. Joseph was born on November 21, 1935 in Santa Maria, California to Carlos Caravajal and Juanita Duran McCammond and was the beloved grandson of Refugia “Cuca” Gomez. The Duran family established roots in Gilroy in 1929 where they remain lifelong residents. It was there that Joseph met the love of his life Josephine Navarro, together they built a beautiful life and raised five children. Joseph lived a long and meaningful life grounded in strong family values and deep faith. He was a man of quiet strength who touched many lives through his kindness, wisdom and steadfast dedication to those he loved. His belief in the importance of education, helped inspire generations of his family to pursue success and build fulfilling lives. He found joy in life‘s simple pleasures, a devoted fan of the Oakland Raiders often spent most Sundays cheering alongside his family. He also enjoyed playing dominoes, sharing laughter and friendly competition with loved ones. Above all, he had a deep passion for reading and teaching Bible studies reflecting his enduring faith and his desire to guide and uplift others. His passion for teaching and reading the Bible helped him grow and understand the importance of family. With the support of his wife Josephine, they have been a pillar of strength for their family. Together they were devoted parents and offered steadfast guidance, unconditional love, and unwavering support. His family was his greatest pride and joy and his influence will live on for generations to come.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 75 years Josephine Navarro Duran and their five children, Richard Duran (Sandy), Barbara Musquez (Ray), Gloria Estrada (Mike), Michael Duran (Lisa) and Joseph Duran Jr. (Evelyna). He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson Michael Duran Jr. A service to celebrate Joseph’s life will be held on May 5th and May 6th 2026 at Habings Funeral Home where family and friends will gather to Honor and remember him. Joseph Duran Sr will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever remain in the hearts of all those who loved him.
