Jose Luis Guzman, age 88, passed away peacefully on May 27th, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of Juan Guzman and Matilde Munoz, a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. While his early years were filled with struggle, he leaves behind only memories filled with light and love.

At age 24 he became part of the Bracero program where he was able to travel and provide for his family in Nochistlan, Zacatecas. In 1976 he came to Santa Clara Co where, later on, he would move to Gilroy and spend the last 30 years of his life. He spent his days making everything he touched more beautiful. He worked as a gardener, janitor, and maintenance until the age of 84 when he retired. His pride and joy were his crops of corn, squash, chilies, and tomatillo. He was a devout Catholic and a member of Saint Mary's Parish.

He is survived by his wife Maria Teresa. His children Antonio, Socorro, Reyna, and Refugio. As well as 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, and one on the way.

A visitation will start Sunday, June 9th from 2pm followed by a vigil service at 5pm at Habing Family Funeral Home. On Monday, June 10th, there will be a mass at 10am in Saint Mary's Parish, burial will follow at St Mary Cemetery.

Jose Luis Guzmán, edad 88, falleció en paz el 27 de Mayo del 2019 acompañado por su familia. El era hijo de Juan Guzmán y Matilde Muñoz, un esposo, padre, abuelo y bisabuelo. Vivió una vida con muchos obstáculos, y ahora solo deja memorias de luz y amor.

A la edad de 24 fue parte del programa Bracero, donde pudo viajar y proveer para su familia en Nochistlán, Zacatecas. En 1976 vino al condado de Santa Clara, y luego se mudó a Gilroy donde pasó los últimos 30 años de su vida. Dedicó su tiempo haciendo todo lo que tocaba más hermoso, trabajando como jardinero y gerente de limpieza hasta la edad de 84 cuando se jubiló. Su orgullo fue sus cosechas de elote, calabaza, chile, y tomatillo. El era un Católico fiel y miembro de la parroquia Santa Maria.

Su presencia vivirá en su esposa Maria Teresa, y en sus hijos Antonio, Socorro, Reyna y Refugio. Al igual de sus 12 nietos y 5 bisnietos con uno en camino.

El velación se dará a cabo el Domingo 9 de Junio de 2pm y el rosario 5pm en el Habing Family Funeral Home. El Lunes 10 de Junio va a hacer la misa a las 10am en la Parroquia Santa Maria. Seguido del funeral en el Cementerio Santa Maria.
