Obituary

John Angelo Dossetti, age 96, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 6, 2020 in Morgan Hill, CA, with his daughters at his bedside.

A native Californian, John was born in South San Francisco, CA, to Antonio and Josephine Dossetti, immigrants from Italy. He was a twin; one of seven children born to them.

John graduated from Merced High School in 1943 with brothers Silvio (his twin) and Albert. He and Albert took care of the family dairy farm during World War II and through the 1950's. He loved farming and always said he would have stayed a farmer if he could have made a good living at it.

John married Mary Etta Holmes in 1953. He continued working the dairy farm for years before moving to San Jose, CA with his wife and three daughters, Kathleen, Joanne and Lisa, where he began selling correspondence courses door-to-door. He told stories of being welcomed into people's homes that had "No Soliciting" signs posted and even watch dogs liked him and would let him come into a home. He was so likable that his sales sky-rocketed and he won numerous trips and awards. He moved the family to Hollister, CA where he sold insurance; and later began selling commercial and residential real estate in Morgan Hill, CA for 30 years.

John spent many years hunting, golfing, cooking, and serving his community in various ways. He served in the Hollister Jaycees, and was president of the Hollister Toastmasters in 1969. In Morgan Hill he was president of the Chamber of Commerce in 1975-76, and again in 1979-80. From 1977-78 John served as president of the Morgan Hill Lions Club, and for many years attended almost every city council meeting where he always had something to say. John loved public speaking, telling jokes and stories, cooking for large groups, swing dancing with his wife, and rooting for his favorite Bay Area sports teams. He was a huge fan of the SF Giants baseball team. He enjoyed being a member of the Morgan Hill Presbyterian Church, and served there as well.

John was preceded in death by his father and mother, his wife Mary, daughter Joanne Zeimet, and all of his siblings: brothers Michael, Silvio, Albert Dossetti and sisters Mary von Euw, Ann Rapozo, and Gloria Fields. He is survived by his loving daughters, Kathleen Dossetti of San Jose, CA and Lisa Oliver (Ken) of Morgan Hill; grandson Adam Guzman (Dianna), granddaughter Kendra Oliver, and great-grandsons Logan and Tyler Guzman; Gary Zeimet (Caroline) of Rio, WI, and Arthur and Donna Guzman of Hollister. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

John will always be remembered for his positive, fun-loving, lively presence, signature pasta sauce, cooking for family gatherings, reunions and holidays, and making people laugh. He always, always had a funny story! Up to the very end, John still had an incredibly firm handshake, most likely due to all the years of milking cows!

The family wishes to thank Westmont of Morgan Hill and their Compass Rose Memory Care for their compassionate support over the 9 years that John resided there. We are thankful for the accommodations they made for us during the last week of John's life. Many thanks also go out to Seasons Hospice, for how they brought comfort to John and his family.
